Located close to Flores Island in Indonesia, the Komodo National Park is much more than dragons. It’s a place with unique fauna and flora, beautiful from the top of the mountains to the bottom of the sea. Exploring the hills of Padar, wandering around with the dragons on Komodo Island, relaxing on Pink Beach, and snorkeling or diving at Manta Point are just some of the activities you can do in this still partly undiscovered paradise.
Go with an official guide
Instead of wandering around by yourself or staying with the locals, it is highly recommended to hire an official guide or ranger for your trip to the Komodo National Park as they have experience and knowledge regarding the animals. Although Komodo dragons have bad vision, they still can hear you and have a powerful sense of smell. An official guide always brings a long, double-branched stick to dispel the dragons and protect tourists. In the water as well, if you want to explore the marine life don’t forget to go with a trained dive instructor, because the currents are strong and there are some underwater plants and animals which can be dangerous.
Be aware of wildlife
There are some incredible creatures to be found on Bali, from elephants and monkeys, to exotic birds, but as with many wild animals, obey the signs and keep your wits about you. When walking in rural areas or at night, it’s a good idea to always wear appropriate closed in footwear, just in case you come across some of the less pleasant fauna.
